MALCOLM HUNDLEY

ARTIST STATEMENT
Tempus Fugit

The inspiration for my work is the built environment and the everyday – things that are often created with an illusion of permanence.

Yet, all these things will eventually be destroyed or deteriorate into an unrecognizable form.

The paintings in this exhibition can be characterised as “Going, Going, Gone!” since they depict objects, institutions and environments that have either disappeared or will be gone within the coming decades.

East Fremantle Oval is unrecognizable, Bousfield’s Menswear has closed, Fremantle Port will be moved, the Traffic Bridge to be dismantled, and even Sandtrax Beach, a natural form, is exposed to the vagaries of coastal erosion and climate change.
